In todays Interview I catch up with the beautiful Alexandra Kovacova. Saška at home and Alex abroad she was born in Snina, Slovakia and is better known in the online world as the Crazy Sexy Fun Traveler. Alex has been living the blogger lifestyle for a few years now and been to 43+ countries. Her recent development of two new websites shows her true entrepreneurial spirit and passion for traveling the world on her own terms.
So how is life now? Where are you these days?
All good, catching up with blogging and relaxing. I am in my home town Snina in Slovakia visiting my family and friends. You know, it’s summer so the weather is nice and everyone is on holidays.
When did you decide to start a travel blog and why?

It was one of my insomnia nights and at 4 am I was thinking what I could do instead of watching movies at night when I cannot sleep. I wanted to do something that makes sense and not just waste my time when I realized the thing I loved the most was traveling. I Googled ”travel blog” that early morning and started mine the same night.

Have you worked as a freelancer online?

No, I don’t really work as a freelancer. I have written a few articles for some Slovak magazines but they don’t pay well, which pushes me off. So unless I really have a lot of free time or I am asked to write about something by someone I know well, I don’t freelance.

Where did Crazy Sexy Fun Traveler come from?

That’s how friends used to call me. I mean never with all 4 words at the same time but those 4 words have been the words that describe me the best so I used them.

What is your favourite music to listen to when travelling?

I don’t have any favourite music, it depends on my mood and the country I am currently visiting. New songs always remind me of the place I heard them for the first time though.

Ever had to bribe a cop or border security?

No, never had such a problem. Once I shouted at a border security guy at Thailand – Cambodia border because he wanted to charge me more for the visas but I knew the real price so in front of everyone I screamed at him what the hell he was thinking. I guess he was ashamed then because he charged me the normal price and let me and my friend pass faster than the people who had arrived there before us!

Have you ever ran out of money while traveling?

No, never. My mum taught me very well how to save money and how to always keep something. I always have money on my account for a few months, no matter what. You gotta be smart 🙂

What country had the strongest effect on your personality and view on life?

Not counting my home country, then definitely Mexico. I love everything about it. It was the first country I visited after I quit my job and many things there were for my first time exactly in Mexico. There I also realized how much us Europeans complain about everything. The Mexicans know how to be happy with very little. One of my friends told me something I will never forget – Fucking Europeans, always complaining 😀

Did you ever use HelpX, Couchsurfing or Woofer?

I only tried Couchsurfing pretty many times. Usually I had good experiences and we became great friends. For example with Pablo who hosted me and a friend of mine in El Calafate in Argentina, we went to El Chalten for 5 days to hike the mountains. But a couple of times it also happened that the guys of course expected something from me. I even wrote about Couchsurfing and sex, no wonder it became a popular post.

Do you read business or success books?

I don’t read books at all. I had to read sometimes 7 books per week back at the University and it destroyed my eyes so quit reading books. Only from time to time I read online articles if I stumble upon something interesting. But no business related for sure.

Has social media had a big effect on your blog traffic?

Yes, definitely. Facebook used to be the biggest one, still is, even though their rules changed. Then Twitter and Google +, that’s all I use. No more time for anything else, I’m afraid.

Ever lost your wallet/passport or had it stolen?

Never lost anything, but my wallet was stolen once in Barcelona and once in Brno, Czech republic. Both times my passport was just next to it but they left it there. I am lucky 🙂

What is next for your travels and in life?

To be honest, I don’t know. I need to catch up with family and friends, finish all the posts I want to write and start some projects. I have a few short trips planned until the end of the year but nothing big. Need time to relax.
